Why the price differs
According to SSVV, the costs of exams and courses can differ per exam centre and training centre; you'll find them on those companies' websites. Any training provider may offer VCA courses, so there is a lot of choice.
You can only take a VCA exam at an exam centre recognised by SSVV. Such a centre sells the exams to companies, training providers and individual candidates. The list of recognised centres is on our page about booking the VCA exam.
With a course or just the exam?
According to SSVV, a training course is not required, but it is highly recommended. With a course, the exam is usually included and your training provider arranges it for you. According to SSVV, many courses for VCA-Basis (B-VCA) take 2 days.
If you only want to take the exam, you sign up yourself at a recognised exam centre. Whether that is enough for you depends on how well you already know the material (our view).
A card is not required
At some exam centres you also get a card when you pass. That is not required, and a card does not replace your diploma. The diploma itself is recorded in the Centraal Diploma Register (CDR).
Costs of taking the exam again
If you fail, you take the exam again through the exam centre where you took your exam. After ten years, when your diploma expires, you also take the exam again. SSVV doesn't list a separate price for a resit; ask your exam centre.
